In the mid-1940s, Juel Market and Milt Johnson worked for Walker Brothers Construction constructing homes in the Eau Claire area.
In 1948, they decided to form their own company to build homes.
In 1952, Market & Johnson constructed their first commercial project, Altoona High School in Altoona, Wisconsin, and by 1956 the company had transitioned from home building to commercial construction.
In 1964, Milt Johnson decided to sell his portion of the firm to Juel Market. That same year Marv Market joined the firm. His brother, Dan Market, joined in 1970.
The firm has experienced steady growth throughout the years, and today, we are western Wisconsin's largest contractor with over $400 million in annual construction volume.
In 1995, the company expanded by adding an office in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and in 2013, we expanded again by opening an office in Oakdale, Minnesota. In 2022, we relocated the Oakdale, Minnesota office to Stillwater, Minnesota.
Today, the ownership team extends beyond the Market Family to include several key employees. However, the original principles established by Juel Market remain the same; complete the job in a timely fashion, maintain the highest quality that can be achieved, and do the project right the first time.
Today, Market & Johnson, Inc. is a premier general contractor/construction manager with a footprint that extends well beyond our roots in western Wisconsin. By maintaining a core set of principles that go back to the company's start over seventy years ago, Market & Johnson continues to diversify and provide construction solutions for new industry segments and across a much broader geography
