The new 8,400 sq. ft. Sparta Rest Stop project was part of an $8M federal grant to improve safety, accessibility, and convenience for travelers. Designed to enhance the visitor experience, the rest stop now offers brighter lighting, expanded parking, and winding sidewalks that connect the park's buildings, including a 1,200 sq. ft. wood-framed maintenance shed with LP SmartSide siding and four picnic shelters.
Inside the rest stop, visitors will find modern finishes with in-floor heating in the lobby and terrazzo flooring throughout. Much of the interior is a decorative, burnished CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) Pattern. The restrooms are ADA-compliant with new family-assist facilities that include powered, height-adjustable adult changing stations. The project has 20 geothermal wells on the west side of the main building.
